There are not enough rentals to meet demand
Many travelers prefer to stay in vacation homes rather than hotels, possibly for a variety of reasons. In some cases, vacation rentals can be a cheaper alternative to hotels. These rental properties can also offer a more spacious layout and often provide more comfort than one typically finds in the home. Plus, they usually offer a lot more privacy than a hotel.
But if you were hoping to book a vacation home for a summer trip, know that reservations all sell out. According to Jeff Hurst, president of VRBO, a US vacation home rental market, there simply aren’t enough properties available to meet traveler demand.
Speaking with Yahoo Finance Live, noted Hurst, “When we think of the supply and vacation rentals especially in the United States, the reality is that for most peak days there isn’t enough.”
But that doesn’t mean that it’s totally out of the question to book a vacation rental for your trip. Planning your vacation may require some flexibility and creativity, but there are options.
Tips for saving on summer travel
There are some amazing places you can visit that might not be the best tourist spots, but they still offer plenty of attractions, lots of beauty, and lots of fun. Don’t be afraid to try something new when planning your summer vacation.
Here are some steps you can take that will allow you to have fun and explore new places without breaking your budget.
- Choose a passable destination. Hurst noted: âMany of the best dates and top destinations are booked. But we were really encouraged by the number of people willing to try different destinations by car. With the prices of flights and rental cars so high right now, you can save a lot of money if you choose a destination closer to you. Using your car and only paying for gasoline can free up some money. money in your vacation budget. Plus, traveling by car adds another level of adventure to your travel experience.
- Play around with your travel dates. Taking a full week’s vacation or traveling for a long weekend can be expensive. Plus, everyone will probably have the same idea. Instead, consider changing your dates to take a trip from Monday to Friday. This gives you a bit of time, but can help reduce the cost of accommodation, flights, and activities.
- Use travel credit card rewards. If you already have a travel credit card, use your points to book accommodation. This can reduce the total cost of your trip. If you don’t already have a Travel Rewards Card, we recommend that you get one. You can use your card to book your reservations and earn points for your spending. Finally, you can use your rewards to book travel for future travel.
